As a third grade student, our founder, Paul Dorian, became enthralled with computers.
He gained such a technical grasp of computers, that for the next three years he
was the computer guru of his elementary school. Paul took on the responsibility
of setting up and maintaining all the school computers. As he moved through junior
high and high school, Paul’s talents grew significantly as more teachers
and administrators began depending upon his expertise to solve any technically
related problems that arose.
By the time Paul graduated from high school, his knowledge of computers, audio/video
equipment, and other forms of emerging technology created a high demand for
his services. In 1996, Paul started his own company called Dorian Does It All,
with the premise that he could “do it all” for clients regarding
technology. While some Silicon Valley startups began in a garage, Paul started
out in a closet. He converted his bedroom closet into a small office and worked
from there for a couple of years before moving into more suitable quarters.
Paul’s early focus was on website development. With valuable exposure
from an article in the San Jose Mercury News, the young entrepreneur got a big
break. The Noyce Foundation saw the article and hired him to review and improve
their office productivity. While working with them, he was able to improve their
office efficiency by networking their computers and standardizing their office
software.
The list of clients began to grow by word-of-mouth regarding Paul’s talents.
With that came the need for additional staff. As the clients and employees increased,
it became necessary for a name change. In January 2002, Dorian Does It All was
renamed UName IT Solutions, Incorporated. Headquartered in San Jose, California,
the company now provides support for over 400 users.
